When Bogotá was named the 'world capital of theatre' in 2016, recognition of the countless works made in the city grew exponentially; in fact, historically this art took over many stages, not just theaters that were usually occupied by local elites: neighborhood theaters were taken over streets and popular areas, a fact that is still maintained to take the tables to new and necessary settings.
Now, with the arrival of the 17th edition of the Ibero-American Theatre Festival, the works become more interesting, especially for new audiences; and in addition to that, this Sunday 27th will be celebrated World Art Day, and as is to be expected, in its cradle, Bogotá, the large and small stages will enhance this activity by a series of works all over the city.
The festival will start on Saturday 26, and over the weekend, 40 plays will be presented in 36 theatres in 11 venues, and to offer greater access to all audiences, special rates, discounts, 2x1 tickets and free functions will be offered for boys and girls. On Sunday, the curtains will open from 11 in the morning until 8 at night. A whole double marathon day, as stated by Maira Salamanca, deputy director of the Arts of the District Institute of Arts -Idartes-.

“We have been working from Idartes so that all of Bogotá is the stage and those who have not enjoyed the performing arts live have the opportunity, this time thanks to the venues and spaces in the city that were linked to this initiative,” said the official. And the variety is so high that works will be presented in Barrios Unidos, Teusaquillo, Santa Fe, La Candelaria, Antonio Nariño, Fontibon, Kennedy, Bosa, Los Martyrs, Tunjuelito and Chapinero; there, in addition to theatrical performances, there will be circus and puppet demonstrations.
