The Antioquia Police Department confirmed on Monday the capture of alias' Yimbo ', second leader of the criminal organization known as 'Los Mexicanos' and one of the most wanted men in the department of Chocó. The arrest took place in the municipality of Ciudad Bolivar, in southwestern Antioquia.

According to Brigadier General Gustavo Franco Gómez, commander of Police Region No. 6, the 36-year-old man was intercepted in the middle of a checkpoint that was advanced in the Farallones district. He also indicated that 'Yimbo' had left Quibdó, the capital of Chocó, as part of his plan to hide from the authorities. Before arriving in Antioquia, it would have been in the subregion of San Juan.

Police reports detail that 'Yimbo' chose to escape his area of influence after the arrest of alias' Chucky ', who he sponsored as the leader of 'Los Mexicanos', was confirmed. Subsequently, his arrest warrant was issued for several crimes: "This person must answer to the judicial authorities by concert to commit crimes, for homicide and for the instrumentalization of minors in criminal activities,” General Franco Gómez added.

Already in Antioquia, the commander explained that 'Yimbo' intended to “expand its criminal hegemony to the municipality of Ciudad Bolivar, Salgar, Tarso and Pueblo Rico”. Apparently, the detainee today would have alliances with other criminal groups and ringleaders, “some of them deprived of their liberty,” he specified.

Having completed his judiciation, a judge ordered a measure of assurance in a prison center. Likewise, the authorities invited citizens to report criminals in the region and provide information that allows them to realize their capture.

Recall that last December the National Police announced the capture of 30 alleged members of 'Los Mexicanos'. At the time, General Jorge Luis Vargas explained that detainees used to extort money from merchants, teachers and mine owners in Chocó with amounts ranging from 100,000 to 500 million pesos.

“Based on the acts of violence that occurred in the capital of Chocó, a detailed investigation was launched to find the perpetrators of the attacks that occurred in recent days in that region of the country, resulting in the arrest of these people,” said the director of the National Police at the time.

Antioquia is one of the regions of the country that has suffered the most from the rainy season in the country. According to the authorities, so far this year there have been more than 386 emergencies due to winter, of which 210 corresponded to mass movements, 76 to floods and 31 to sudden increases.

Under this scenario, the ombudsman, Carlos Camargo, called for the redoubling of the efforts of relief agencies in the face of the intensification of rains. This is what the official said in the middle of his visit to the municipality of San Carlos, Antioquia, in recent days:

“The emergency in San Carlos, like those that occurred in recent weeks in other regions of the country, is an example of the emergencies that could arise, according to the warnings issued by the National Disaster Risk Management System, which reveal the possibility of increased rainfall that may occur. can reach historical levels,” he said.
