The US government considered on Tuesday that it is now up to Iran to unblock negotiations to restore the 2015 agreement on limiting its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.
“The ball is on the court in Tehran, it is up to them to make the decisions that may be considered difficult,” said US diplomacy spokesman Ned Price, with some optimism since the beginning of March.
“There are a number of difficult issues that we always try to solve,” Price added.
“An agreement of this type is not imminent, nor is there total certainty, and that is why for much of the year we have prepared ourselves for all scenarios and scenarios,” including a possible failure of the negotiations and the end of the agreement designed to prevent Iran from developing an atomic weapon, the spokesman insisted.
“We have discussed alternatives at length with our allies” in the Middle East and with “our European allies” so “we are quite prepared,” he warned, without specifying the details of a contingency plan.
Price reiterated that US President Joe Biden's commitment to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon will be maintained, with or without the agreement with Tehran.
