The inauguration of Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) on Monday, March 21, has caused a lot of discussion on social media between those who support the project and those who despise it.
This is due to the fact that numerous videos and photographs of the facilities have circulated through social networks, as well as testimonies in which lighting failures, lack of water in the bathrooms, as well as street vendors and articles referring to the prime president can be observed.
Different politicians opposed to the current government have called the airport a mediocre work compared to that planned by Enrique Peña Nieto's government.
The criticism came from figures such as Gabriel Quadri, who claimed that an 'astronomical damage' was done to the country and that for this reason Andrés Manuel would step into prison; or Javier Lozano, who was much more explicit in stating that “This crap is a reflection of the “transformation” that we are experiencing, thanks to assholes and corrupt people”,.
And this confrontation led to a brief discussion between political scientist Denise Dresser and journalist Sabina Berman. The former has positioned itself as one of the main opponents of the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), while the second has been placed on greater occasions in favor of AMLO.
The discussion began when the journalist responded to a comment against AIFA in which she said that the rejection of the right-wingers was “synonymous with hatred” and that the constant attacks “fatigue the air”. To which Dresser made a clarification:
So Berman replied to Dresser reminding him that “In a previous tweet you compare the new airport with a SLINGSHOT. That, dear @DeniseDresserG, is a total disqualification. Pure hate. Not an analysis. And if you don't consciously align with the Right, you align yourself de facto. And I'm sorry. We need lucid criticism,” said the journalist.
Berman referred to an image that the political scientist shared through her Twitter account where you can see a giant slingshot that is about to launch a park bench.
The image was accompanied by an acid comment “Passenger in search of finished, accessible, fast, and cheap route to Felipe Angeles International Airport - AIFA”, which earned it several criticisms from other users of the network.
For this reason, Dresser made a comment by way of clarification in which he argued that he used humor to talk about the difficulties of access to the new airport: “Eye. I don't compare the new airport to a slingshot. I use humor to illustrate the real difficulties of access it presents.”
And finally he added that “I miss the democratic Sabina, consistent, non-aligned, who demanded governments instead of disqualifying critics. I hope I walk around.”
Likewise, supporters of the Fourth Transformation have declared their support and expressed their congratulations on the opening of AIFA. Perhaps one of the most effusive was the Morena party itself, who through its Twitter account, assured that Mexico City was approaching rainy season and flooding due to the “tears of the conservatives”.
