For Egan Bernal, 2021 was perhaps one of his other most important sporting years, as his victory at the Giro d'Italia meant adding a second grand round to his record after winning the Tour de France in 2019.

With that figure, the Zipaquireño equals his compatriot Nairo Quintana who also adds two titles from the big tours: Giro d'Italia in 2014 and Vuelta España in 2016.

However, Bernal at 25 years old continues to be one of the greatest benchmarks in world cycling given the skills he has demonstrated in each of the competitions and what he projects. That's why at the beginning of 2022, the Ineos Grenadiers team gave it another vote of confidence for the future by signing it for 5 more seasons, that is, until 2026.

Although at that time the accident that has him out of competition did not happen yet until there is a complete recovery in his mobility, the team does not withdraw its intentions to maintain what was agreed with the Colombian.

They have even been aware of every detail that is required so that he can return to his physical and mental health in good condition, and then start working properly on what will be his return to careers in Europe, clearly if he has the approval of doctors.

So far there was talk of the possibility of such a return at the end of 2022, although nothing is written, others believe that it would happen in early 2023.

Meanwhile, the coffee grower is among the highest paid cyclists of 2022 worldwide. Currently the runner with the highest salary is the young Slovenian two-time champion of the Tour de France, Tadej Pogacar with 6 million euros a year, followed by the Englishman Chris Froome who, despite no longer being on the radar of favorite cyclists in big rounds, has a salary of 5.5 million euros.

The three-time world champion, Peter Sagan appears in third place for this year with the same amount as Froome, while Geraint Thomas, Bernal's teammate is 4th in that ranking with 3.5 million euros.

Finally, Egan Bernal is 5th with 2.8 million euros per year being the best paid Colombian and Latin American in world cycling. As additional information related to Colombian riders, Nairo Quintana and Fernando Gaviria are in the top 20, being 19th with 1.9 million euros and 20th with 1.8 million euros, respectively.

Bernal will continue his physical recovery process for now and these days he was seen in the department of Huila accompanying the team he sponsors and his brother Ronald Bernal in the Huila Classical.
