The bad present of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), after a start to the season full of illusions about the hiring of stars like Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, has put Mauricio Pochettino in the eye of criticism. The Argentine coach is one of those targeted by the press and fans for not having been able to fulfill the main objective of this campaign, winning the Champions League and his continuity is in doubt.

The former Tottenham coach arrived at the club in early 2021, following the dismissal of German Thomas Tuchel, and signed a contract until June 2022 with the possibility of extending it until 2023. Precisely, in July last year both parties decided to make use of this clause, so the link was lengthened. Now, there seems to be regret on the part of the French club for signing that extension and they are considering kicking out the coach.

According to the French news site L'Equipe, Pochettino has a salary that reaches 1.1 million euros (USD 1.2 million) gross per month. While it is far from having income similar to that of Diego Simeone, Pep Guardiola or Jürgen Klopp, it is the best payment in Ligue 1 , with a figure three times higher than that of Jorge Sampaoli, second on the list.

Therefore, if PSG chooses to dismiss the Argentine, it should disburse a sum of 15 million euros (USD 16.5 million), which would go up to 20 million (USD 22.5 million) if compensation is taken into account for all its employees, including his son Sebastiano, who works as a physical trainer.

Although the Parisian club is one of the biggest moneymakers in the world, this figure seems to set off an alarm light about the possibility of changing coaches for the next season. For the time being, Pochettino will remain in office until the end of the season with the mission of winning Ligue 1, a tournament he leads with 12 points ahead of his immediate pursuer, Olympique Marseille. Once the activity ends, the PSG leadership will have to decide what to do with the Argentine whose work has so far failed to convince.
