The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Monday night that Russian forces were rejected in the city of Makariv, 60 kilometers west of Kiev, the capital, where anti-aircraft alarms were sounded again tonight.
“In the direction of Mykolaiv, as a result of the counterattack by the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the opponent is forced to retreat to the border. During the day, thanks to the heroic actions of our defenders, the national flag of Ukraine was raised over the city of Makariv,” he stressed.
On the other hand, new US satellite images of Maxar Technologies taken on Monday show fires of military attacks and increasing flooding of the Irpin River, as well as Russian artillery west of the Russian-controlled Antonov Air Base, northwest of the capital, as announced by US channel CNN .
In particular, fires can be seen in the center of Irpin, a city near the capital, near a government complex and in several apartment buildings. Another satellite image also shows two fires in a group of buildings near a school in the city and a residential area next to a lake.
Elsewhere in the country, the mayor of Chernigov, Vladislav Atroshenko, said that more than half the population has left the city and that there would be approximately 130,000 civilians left in the city, which used to have about 285,000 people,” according to Ukrainian news agency Unian.
“Chernigov is important to his story. Putin has repeatedly said that it is the cradle of orthodoxy,” said Atroshenko, adding that the city is surrounded on all sides, as reported by Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform.
For its part, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have claimed that “invading units” continue to bomb this city and other settlements. “They do not stop trying to move towards Brovary, but because of losses there is no success in the promotion”, they stressed in their latest report.
In this regard, they have reported that “hostile aviation” continues to destroy civilian infrastructure with missiles in Kiev, Kharkov and Donetsk. Near the capital, where anti-aircraft alarms sounded again on Monday night, Borispol Mayor Volodymir Borisenko asked residents to leave the city.
“I call on civilians to be smart and report to our call center and, if possible, leave the city,” he highlighted on his official Facebook profile. Boryspil has a curfew, as does Kiev, between 8 p.m. local time in the afternoon and 7 a.m. (local time) in the morning.
