The story of the Winchester brothers doesn't seem to want to die. After so many years together on screen, Jensen Ackles (Dean) and Jared Padalecki (Sam) broke up as actors to take new directions. While Padalecki is part of the new version of Walker Texas Ranger, simply called Walker, Ackles will be seen in the new season of the Amazon series, The Boys, as Soldier Boy.
But the CW universe does not want to turn off the light definitively to the story of Supernatural, so we will have a prequel, which will be called The Winchesters. This is the story of the life of Sam and Dean's parents, Mary Campbell, which will be played by Meg Donnelly (High School Musical: The Series) and John Winchester by Drake Rodger (The In Between and Murder RX).
Recall that in Supernatural the siblings' parents had a participation and were played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith, as John and Mary respectively. And during a flashback his characters were played by actors Matt Cohen and Amy Gumenick.
Jensen Ackles and his wife, Danneel, will act as executive producers of this new series through their company Chaos Machine Productions. It is known that they also have other Supernatural spin offs scheduled for which little is known so far. Jensen will also be the narrator of the pilot of The Winchesters.
The story will travel to Mary's age 19 and is described as a young woman who has been “fighting the forces of darkness” since she was little. For his part, John is a veteran who fought in the Vietnam War and is described as “selfless and lucid”. Back in his homeland, John will begin to take part in a new mission in his home: he will be part of a secret organization that his own father was part of.
The union between them will take place after Mary has a personal tragedy (added to the disappearance of her father) that leads her to leave the family business. That's when John appears in his life and takes on a new mission.
This would be the third spin off of Supernatural and the producers expect it to have a good star contrary to the unsuccessful projects of Bloodlines (made in 2014) and Wayward Sisters (made in 2017). Both attempts did not work and did not go beyond a few episodes.
Robbie Thompson will be the screenwriter of The Winchesters (an old acquaintance of Supernatural) and also executive producer of this new product. Who will not be part of this prequel Eric Kripke, creator of the original series since he is dedicated to his role in the series The Boys.
We will surely see several characters that we met on Supernatual, since several of them have shown interest through social networks. Ruth Connell who played the Scottish witch Rowena in the series expressed her desire to be part of the spin off. Another one who joined the order was Misha Collins (Castiel in Supernatural). Through his twitter he said that as he played a time-traveling angel, he could well appear in the lives of Sam and Dean's parents.
