The draw for the Qatar-2022 World Cup, which will be held on April 1 in Doha, will be based on the FIFA standings on March 31, so the seeds will not be known until then, the world football instance announced this Tuesday.
The 32 participating teams will be divided into 8 pots, “following sporting criteria based on the FIFA Men's World Ranking that will be published on March 31 after the international period,” the instance specified.
Qatar will be one of the top seeds as the host country and the other seven teams in pot 1 will be the top finishers in the FIFA standings.
According to the current standings, the top five finishers have all the options of being seeded: Belgium, Brazil, France, Argentina and England.
On the other hand, Holland and Germany, which currently occupy 10th and 11th places, will almost certainly be in pot 2.
Each pot will include 8 teams and eight groups of four teams each will be formed.
The identity of the 32 participating teams will not be known on April 1 due to the international playoffs and the postponement of the European play-off tie between Scotland and Ukraine due to the Russian army's invasion of this country.
“The teams of the same confederation will be kept separate in the different groups, with the exception of those of UEFA which is represented by 13 teams. In this way, five of the eight groups will include two European teams,” FIFA said in a statement.
