MOSCOW (AP) — A Russian court found opposition leader Alexei Navalny guilty of fraud and contempt and sentenced him to nine years in a maximum-security prison on Tuesday.
The judge also sentenced Navalny to pay a fine of 1.2 million rubles ($11,500).
Navalny is serving a two-and-a-half year sentence in a penal colony east of Moscow. His followers have said that the intention is to keep Navalny, a former adversary of President Vladimir Putin, in prison for a long period.
Navalny said the charges are false.
