The latest study by The Global Cancer Observatory (Globocan) specified that in Peru a woman dies from cervical cancer every 5 hours. Along the same lines, 4279 new cases are detected annually in our country and 2288 die, making it the second disease that causes death in women.

“The most worrying thing is that despite the high mortality rate from this disease, there is still a large gap in early screening due to ignorance, disinterest, even prejudice and fear of being singled out by society. It is essential that women go for gynecological checkups to detect if there are initial lesions in the cervix, these can be cured if they are detected in time,” said Manuel Álvarez, Gynecologist Oncologist of the League Against Cancer.

According to figures collected by the League Against Cancer during the implementation of its campaigns, 40 per cent of women do not screen for ignorance of the disease, while 25 per cent have a macho partner who prevents them from being screened. For their part, 15% say they fear an unfavorable diagnosis, another 15% say they are ashamed of being examined, while 5% have been victims of physical violence.

“For this reason, the statistics collected by our institution support the importance of our “Uterus Without Shame” campaign , which seeks to encourage all women to have an annual check-up, because it allows you to detect these injuries before they become a fatal disease, said Manuel Álvarez, Gynecologist Oncologist of the League Against Cancer.
