Nairo Quintana is running these days in the Vuelta a Catalunya 2022 together with his team, Arkea Samsic. There he shares a team for this goal with his two compatriots and countrymen: Miguel Eduardo Flórez and Winner Anacona, both as gregarious. At the same time, he faces great rivals such as Simon Yates and Richard Carapaz in Catalan territory.
Since the start of the cycling season in Europe, Nairo has managed to achieve good results, which are not surprising, as we must remember that he already has a Giro d'Italia, which he won in 2014 and a Vuelta España that he won in 2016.
However, little by little his objectives have changed and since he was downgraded from the WordTeam category with Movistar Team to the ProTeam with Arkea Samsic since 2020, the whole dynamic in the competition has been different for him.
On the one hand, because it does not have such a strong team in high mountain days and on the other hand because the purposes of the French squad are others perhaps more related to scoring points and then being able to take the step to the top category of cycling as they have been doing so far.
Since 2020, Quintana arrived with the intention of being the top benchmark of the team together with the Gauls Warren Barguil and Nacer Bouhanni, managing from the beginning to score points to the team and a few victories in general rankings, stages and top 10 in important competitions.

In addition, in the big competitions, being in reality 2 Tour de France the ones that he has raced with Arkea Samsic, he has looked for the opportunity to get among the most combative, although in 2020 he had several physical problems due to accidents and blows in competition.
In 2021 he let himself look strong with the intention of looking for the mountain shirt, but he did not succeed. Even so, his physical and sports fitness looked better than the previous year and he was able to give other results in other competitions to his team.
All of the above remains the path that the Colombian along with his teammates, who, of course, have also been key in the search for the ultimate goal.
That is why by 2023, after the sum of points to be able to qualify among the best 18 teams in the UCI ranking came into effect, one could think that Arkea would take a very big step by staying among those teams that fared best in the season.
According to the Spanish cycling journalist, Nieves Moya, she commented on a Twitter thread more closely why Arkea could rise to the highest level of cycling categories in 2023:
Meanwhile, the Breton squad still has the entire 2022 season ahead of them, which would mean that the work is not done yet.
However, this year they have a great advantage over the past ones and that is that they will be able to do two great three-week laps of the calendar such as the Tour de France and the Vuelta España, with which they could aim to score some points and achieve the final goal.
