The first part of the year was not only loaded with very important releases for the gaming industry. Announcements and previews are also playing a prominent role and this week it already gave more than one surprise: today it was confirmed that the next game based on Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will arrive in the latter part of the year.
The new title of the franchise will be in charge of Illfonic (responsible for Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds) and will be an asymmetric multiplayer - 4vs1 - that will reach both consoles and PCs. Although there is no definite date, it is expected to disembark in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The announcement came with a trailer that anticipates some of the features that the game will have. First of all, what we already know is that four players are going to play the role of the members of the Ghostbusters team and that they will have all the elements - that they will already recognize from the film saga - necessary to capture the ghosts. Also as seen in the preview, these players will have a first-person perspective.
The preview also confirms that the game will feature different references that fans of the films will immediately recognize, such as the participation of Winston Zeddemore (played by Ernie Hudson) or the possibility of hosting Ecto-1.
One aspect that highlighted the trailer is that, for the first time, players will be able to take on the role of the ghost. In this asymmetrical multiplayer, the fifth player will be the threat that the other four players have to catch.
These players will have different abilities available, such as the ability to scare citizens who come across, possess objects from different environments, teleport from one scenario to another or attack the Ghostbusters team.
The game will also have a single-player offline mode in which bots will occupy the rest of the roles that are necessary to carry out the game. Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will be released in the last quarter of 2022 and will arrive on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via the Epic Games Store).
