Amazon Web Services (AWS) began to deliver the AWS Re/Start program in Argentina, for the second year in a row. It trains unemployed and underemployed people in cloud technology skills completely free of charge.
This is an initiative that is carried out in conjunction with Fundación Compromiso and Potrero Digital. “Training for employment in the cloud provides opportunities for local communities and promotes diversity in technology careers,” AWS said in a statement released last Monday.
The new edition, which started yesterday, seeks to train students over 12 weeks in fundamental knowledge of the AWS cloud and practical professional skills (such as interviews and resume writing, for example).
“Together, the Commitment Foundation and AWS Re/Start are building an inclusive and diverse global portfolio of new talent in the cloud by engaging people experiencing unemployment or underemployment who would otherwise not have access to this career,” said Amazon Web Services.
And at that level, he added that “The non-profit organization is the first in Argentina to implement this training program, which will also be implemented in Brazil, through Campinho Digital, the Brazilian edition of the Fundación Compromiso network of learning centers.”
According to the statement, the course helps prepare unemployed and underemployed people for new careers in technology through scenario-based exercises, hands-on labs and courses.
Certifications
“Students develop Linux, Python, networking, security, and relational database skills. In addition to training them, what students are offered is the possibility to take the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam and thus validate their cloud skills with an industry-recognized credential,” explained AWS.
After a first edition in which about ten people have already been certified (and many others are still preparing to do so), this brand new edition began in which some 30 new students will have the same opportunity.
AWS RE/Start will help people prepare for entry-level roles in the cloud, such as cloud operations, site reliability, infrastructure support, and adjacent business technical support functions.
“Industry demand for cloud adoption is far exceeding the number of new cloud savvy workers, leaving organizations struggling to find and hire the talent needed to deploy cloud services. To meet this supply versus demand challenge, we must help people from all backgrounds prepare for careers in the cloud,” said Texas Vashi, leader of the global AWS RE/START team.
He went on to say, “AWS Re/Start brings 'distinctly new' talent to the workforce by helping people with little technology experience prepare for careers in the cloud.”
For her part, Abby Daniell, AWS Senior Manager in Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean, said that the AWS Re/Start program sets a “win-win scenario for people in need, the communities in which they reside, and our customers and partners.”
According to their statements, the program focuses on connecting the unemployed and underemployed to the opportunities of the cloud in demand, “elevating people and economies within those communities, and providing AWS customers and partners with professionals trained to build a loyal and diverse workforce”.
