Fernando de la Torre Tejada, who was appointed as general manager in charge of Petroperú to replace the renouncer Hugo Chávez Arévalos, announced that the state-owned company will terminate the contract with Heaven Petroleum, a company run by Samir Abudayeh, who is in the sights of the anti-corruption prosecutor's office for the US$74 million contract that his company obtained after meetings at the Government Palace.
However, De la Torres explained that the cancellation of the contract with Heaven Petroleum is due to default because they stopped delivering Biodisel since February 16, 2022 as a result of the company's accounts being seized.
“What we are going to do now is to terminate that contract. What was not said in the television reports (which touched on the case) is that all of Heaven Petroleum's accounts have been seized. No company, without a sun, without a dollar to operate, can buy raw materials, can pay workers, can pay services to be able to produce,” said general manager in charge of Petroperú to RPP.
“I don't defend them (...) but it's important for the public to know that the reason why the contract is breached is because the prosecution seizes all its accounts,” he added.
SUPPORT OF THE MEF
De la Torre said that the company spoke with bondholders who told him that in order for Petroperú's downgrade to improve, it should receive the support of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Government.
“As a result of the MEF's refusal (to support Petroperú), Mr. Hugo Chávez resigned. We are now on the road to get closer,” he added.
Fernando de la Torre also pointed out that during his assignment he will seek to achieve three specific objectives within Petroperú.
The first point is to resolve the hiring of an auditor for the 2021 financial year in coordination with the MEF and the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic and to recover the investment grade.
The second objective is to effectively strengthen the company's corporate governance and internal control. The third point will be the opening of the Talara refinery in April of this year and thus doubling the box by 2023.
