Netherlands football coach Louis Van Gaal tested positive for covid-19 and will be in isolation in the coming days, as his team prepares Saturday's friendly match against Denmark, the Dutch Federation (KNVB) announced on Tuesday.

The other members of the coaching staff will assume their duties “until their return,” the KNVB said in its statement.

It was not specified whether Van Gaal (70 years old) was expected to be on the bench in Saturday's match or three days later in another friendly against Germany.

The last anti-covid measures will be lifted on Wednesday in the Netherlands, but it is still recommended to stay in isolation for between five and ten days in case of a positive test, starting from the onset of symptoms.

All players and staff members of the Dutch national team tested negative for the coronavirus upon arrival at the Zeist training center on Monday, a KNVB spokesman told Dutch press agency ANP.

“The national coach had a cold and continued to show symptoms,” the spokesman said.
