The Czech football team, which will face Sweden on Thursday in one of the semifinals of the European Repechage for the World Cup in Qatar 2022, was forced to postpone its trip by 24 hours due to a problem on the plane, a spokesman for the federation announced on Tuesday.
“The Czech national team is going to change its program, it will not travel to Sweden until tomorrow (Wednesday) after a breakdown in the plane,” said Petr Sedivy, without giving further details on the origin of the device failure.
The match is scheduled for Thursday at 19:45 GMT in Solna.
The winner will face Poland in the final on March 29, with the World Cup ticket as a prize for the winner.
This incident is a new blow to the Central European team, which will not be able to count on Bayer Leverkusen goalscorer Patrick Schick (17 goals in 33 international matches), nor West Ham winger Vladimir Coufal (West Ham), both injured.
This is not the first time that the Czechs suffered an aeronautical breakdown: last summer, at the European Championship, their trip to Budapest for the round of 16 against the Netherlands was also delayed, although this did not destabilize them, beating the Dutch 2-0.
