Brutal accident of the figure of Ajax and the Cameroonian national team in their country: their car was wrecked

André Onana was the victim of a terrifying shock when he was traveling from Yaoundé to Douala to join the national team rally

These are days when the great football figures playing in Europe travel to their respective countries to face the final stretch of the Qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, as did the Cameroonian player André Onana, who suffered a brutal accident on the journey to the concentration of his national team car from which he was miraculously saved. His car was wrecked but he, fortunately, is well.

Onana, a 25-year-old goalkeeper currently active in Ajax, has been involved in a traffic accident as he traveled from Yaoundé to Douala to join his teammates from the Cameroon national team, who are preparing to face Algeria next Friday, March 25.

Images of the wrecked cars quickly went viral on social media. The photographs of the cars show that it was a very strong impact and there is a video showing that there were several vehicles involved, although fortunately no one was seriously injured.

According to The Sun, which collected data from local media, the Ajax player was traveling in one of the vehicles that was damaged the most but was not the driver. The events took place around 7:30 this Tuesday morning and, despite the fact that several vans were damaged, no one was injured.

From the social media profiles of the Cameroonian national team they wanted to bring peace of mind and published images André Onana when they arrived at the resort where his teammates were waiting for him. “The Lions Indomptables goalkeeper met with his teammates in Douala this morning. More fear than harm for the time being after the traffic accident he suffered this morning in Sombo. André Onana will undergo in-depth medical examinations in a hospital in Douala,” they said.

Onana, who has just signed with Inter Milan, has once again made headlines after that involuntary positive doping — he mistakenly took a pill from his pregnant wife — which marginalized him from the courts for several months during the 2020/21 season. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) reduced its penalty and returned to play for Ajax a while ago, but has decided not to renew its contract with the Dutch club.

“During my suspension we had five or six meetings. We couldn't agree on my salary. Ajax offered me half my salary during my suspension, but that wasn't the only thing I didn't like. It was to accept or not. That's why I decided to stop the negotiations. If I think about it now, it still hurts. I want to explain myself, so that fans really know the truth,” he revealed in an interview with De Telegraaf newspaper.
