The Minister of Labour and congressman of the Peru-Democratic Bank, Betssy Chávez Chino, presented on Tuesday a bill on constitutional reform so that, in the event of a presidential vacancy or the resignation of the president, the vice-president of the Republic (Dina Boluarte) or the president of the Congress (María del Carmen Alva) to convene immediate to general elections.
The bill, submitted at 10:30 a.m., proposes to partially amend article 115 of the Constitution “in order to call general elections for a new term of government in the event of vacancy or resignation of the President of the Republic.”
“In the event of vacancy or resignation of the President of the Republic, the Vice-President or the President of Congress immediately calls general elections for a new period of government”, he says verbatim.
The document bears the signatures of the following congressmen: Hector Valer, Guillermo Bermejo, Luis Kemiche, Nieves Limachi and Betssy Chavez. All from the bench of Democratic Peru, made up of some former parliamentarians from Peru Libre.
