With more than 20,000 men and women, the Army seeks to ensure safety on the roads this holiday Monday

The institution assured that it will also be supported by helicopters and unmanned aircraft

This Monday holiday is celebrated in Colombia the San José bridge and with it the different institutions have deployed different operations in the national territory. This is the case of the National Army, which announced that it is carrying out a strong security mechanism in implementation of the Safe Journey campaign, with which it had more than 20,000 men and women, who are responsible for ensuring the safety of thousands of travelers on the country's main routes.

“At about 330 checkpoints, troops will be deployed along more than 15,000 kilometers of national, secondary and tertiary roads. In the north of the country, the Army will have 40 checkpoints at strategic points. There, the First Division will ensure the safety of people mobilizing between the departments of Cesar, Atlántico, Magdalena, La Guajira and Bolivar,” the authority explained in a statement released to public opinion.

Similarly, he specified that with 44 primary, 34 secondary and 1 tertiary roads, the Second Division arranged for each jurisdiction its light cavalry groups, with inter-institutional work with the Police, through mixed checkpoints. It will also have motorized groups for immediate reaction and drones for verification of road sections.

It should be said that, according to information from the competent authorities, due to the collapses caused by heavy rains in recent days, the Third Division of the Army arranged yellow machinery, motorized units, armored vehicles, anti-explosive groups, 11 checkpoints and approximately 350 men in the 54 municipalities of the cordillera area.

“The troops of the Fourth Division continue their security strategy in the departments of Meta, Guaviare and Vaupés, with 18 platoons, 925 men, 2 motorized patrols and 6 covered road axles. For its part, the Fifth Division continues in the security strategy with 19 checkpoints, 1,914 men, 58 road devices and 31 secured routes,” explained the National Army.

In addition to the above, an effort was made to ensure that the various troops of the Sixth Division will be present with approximately 42 checkpoints, which will be ready to ensure the safety of passengers. Checkpoints will be carried out with the aim of guaranteeing the best conditions of mobility, for passengers travelling along the different routes of the country, for the normal development of this festive bridge.

“The Seventh Division will be in charge of the security of the roads in the northwest of the country with 87 checkpoints, where there will be a Light Armored Cavalry Squadron, 4 helicopters 3 Army and one Air Force helicopters, motorized squadrons with 57 motorcycles, tertiary patrols, delivery of steering wheels and mixed patrols with National Police”, the institution specified.

Also, 1280 men will be deployed in the Orinoquia region, with whom the Eighth Division with the Safe Journey campaign, its Army is on the road, seeks to guarantee security in the department of Arauca and its municipalities. According to the military authority, the objective of these devices is “to protect and guarantee the mobility of travelers, themselves and tourists in the different tourist sites of the country, strengthening a safe trip”.
