Winter without gas?

If in two months we don't have enough supplies, we Argentines will be cold. And it will be impossible for the humblest sectors to access a carafe. The industry will be partially or completely paralyzed

“The USA has decided to produce liquefied gas to the maximum of its capacity and authorize it to export to Europe without limits” (US Secretary of Energy, 16-03-2022)

It will not be possible to pay for the LNG and gas shipments, which were contracted to arrive in the country this month and IEASA and CAMMESA, respectively, must pay in dollars in advance” (Sec. of Energy of Argentina, 15-03-22)

At the beginning of February, I publicly exposed the inconvenience of Dr. Alberto Fernández traveling to Russia in the face of the threat of an invasion of Ukraine.

After the aggression began, all countries began to expand their gas stocks. Ursula Von Leyden, President of the European Commission, said: “We need to ensure sufficient fuel reserves for next winter”

It should be remembered that the cold reaches the northern hemisphere in November; in Argentina in June.

It is known that, at the warning of the Secretary of Energy, the Minister of Economy released the items to unlock this month's imports.

There are no answers known about the underlying problem: next winter.

Argentina has large gas reserves (Loma de la Lata, Vaca Muerta, etc.) that are wasted (vented) because the pipelines that take this vital element to large urban centers and the productive system have not been completed.

Our country buys gas by pipelines from Bolivia and imports LNG on ships.

Faced with the imminent war involving Russia (Europe's largest gas supplier) and Ukraine, where most of Gazprom's pipelines pass, the Government had to proceed to buy and store liquefied gas and end negotiations on the new supply contract with Bolivia.

None of this did. On the contrary, in January and February, our Government delayed the signing of the new contract, because “Bolivia was asking for a higher price.”

The contract that expired last year, on December 31, 2021, established a daily delivery of 10.7 million cubic meters in summer and 18 million in winter.

The pipeline is able to carry 30 million and we will be receiving, by the end of April, just over 7 million, courtesy of the Altiplano government, as the contract was not completed.

What does President Alberto Fernández expect to talk to” his friend” President Arce or, at least with “his brother” Evo Morales, to unblock the issue?

Does the tenant of Olivos know that his Brazilian partner, Jair Bolsonaro, has long ago reached an agreement so that his country can buy from Bolivia twice the gas it received last year?

Why doesn't Fernández instruct the efficient ambassador Jorge Argüello to try to get liquefied gas in the USA, a country that is the world's leading producer?

Remember that the President of the United States, Joe Biden, was the only one who gave us vaccines. There he sends us some liquefied gas boats...

If in two months we don't have gas, we Argentines will be cold. And it will be impossible for the most humble fellow citizens to access a gas canister.

The industry will be partially or totally paralyzed.

It is NOW, Mr. President.
