Two horses suffered a heavy blow in the Salta city of Metan. The episode happened yesterday, Saturday, March 19, after a light pole fell on them while they participated in the parade of gauchos in honor of San Jose. Fortunately, the riders were unharmed and the animals were not seriously injured, but it could have been a tragedy.

The parade came after the classic procession that, after two years without being able to take place, brought together some 20,000 people, despite an intense drizzle. According to the testimony of several people who were on the spot, everything happened very quickly. The sequence was recorded by the STV signal of Metan and was later shared by the newspaper El Tribuno. In the video, about 20 seconds long, you can see how two riders rode with their hats on their right arm, when from one second to the next, a light pole falls on the horses.

After the incident, police personnel quickly came to assist them. “They were saved by a miracle,” they said. From the Municipality of San José de Metán, however, they did not make any statements in this regard. “It is striking because not long ago all the lamps in downtown Metan were replaced by LED lights,” say local media in Salta.

This Saturday, March 19, as has been the case for 150 years, the city of Metan honored its patron saint Saint Joseph. The procession was accompanied by thousands of neighbors who, after two years of pandemic, were finally able to gather yesterday to walk the streets of the city. Due to the high convocation, the local authorities requested that the mask be contested.

The procession and holy mass were accompanied by Mayor José María Issa; the mayor of Río Piedras, Moira Dantur; Senator Daniel Dauria; deputies Nancy Jaime and Sebastián Otero; and Mauricio Abregú, Secretary of Government.

For the coming months of autumn and winter, the province of Salta set up an intense tourist agenda. This was announced a few days ago by the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mario Peña. “The meetings industry was one of the hardest hit by the pandemic and it is very important to work hard on the recovery of the sector,” he said for March 31, when the technical talk of the Raid Columbia, a competition aimed at adventure runners on a highland route, will take place.

Among the activities of the cold season are the assembly of the Federal Council of the Argentine Notaries, on April 21 and 22; the National Conference on Procedural Systems of the Institute of Procedural Law of the Bar Association, on May 3 and 4, and a meeting of the Dental Confederation of the Argentine Republic on 5 and 6 of the same month.

In the last week of May, from 26 to 28, tourism students will hold their Regional Meeting, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports will hold, on April 3 and 4, the final of the first Regional Empanada Competition. Among the sports activities of great tourist call is the Great Classic Car Race, which covers 1,000 kilometers in three provinces and will visit Salta on April 29 and 30.
