WASHINGTON (AP) — Justice Clarence Thomas has been hospitalized due to an infection, the U.S. Supreme Court said Sunday.
Thomas, 73, has been hospitalized since Friday at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. after experiencing “flu-like symptoms,” the court said in a statement.
The highest court offered no explanation as to why it waited two days to reveal that the judge was in the hospital.
He also did not provide additional details about the infection, but said Thomas is being treated with antibiotics and his symptoms are decreasing. He could be discharged in a couple of days, he said.
The Supreme Court will meet this week to hear arguments in four cases. Thomas plans to participate in cases even if he does not attend the presentation of arguments, the court said.
Thomas has been part of the highest court since 1991.
