Three dead in dynamite factory explosion in Greece

Three workers were killed on Monday by the explosion in a dynamite factory near Grevena, in northwestern Greece, the company and local police reported.

The incident, the cause of which was not identified, also caused one injury among the guards. It happened around 08h45 (05h45 GMT) at the ELTEK plant in Agalaioi, 27 km from Greneva, according to a company statement.

“The building was completely razed,” Grevena Mayor Yiorgos Dastamanis told Star TV. The local population thought it was an earthquake.

ELTEK confirmed in a statement “the death of three factory employees”, which “respected the safety rules provided by law”.

The company said it is cooperating fully with investigators trying to find out the source of the explosion.

The factory produces dynamite intended primarily for public works, according to a local police source.
