Orbit and Riot Games announced their collaboration to expand the history of League of Legends with a series of novels that will tell the past of their characters. The first novel will be called Ruination and will be written by Anthony Reynolds, lead writer at the development company.
The narrative will follow the story of the life of Kalista, a military general who will undertake a frantic search to access the cure for the poisoned Queen Isolde. Within the MOBA, Kalista is a specter of anger and the embodiment of vengeance, which pursues traitors with their ghostly weapons.
His uncle, King Viego, is the main antagonist of a role-playing game called “Ruined King: A League of Legends Story” and in the last League of Legends event he was also the most important enemy. According to the advances, the novel will explore the historical events that led him to become a villain and that turned the Blessed Isles into a lost land.
The publication of Ruination will be released in English in September this year and will be available in the United States and Great Britain as an ebook, audiobook and printed format. The book will also be translated into other languages, but official dates for its distribution have not yet been announced.
According to Ashley Maidy, Director of Consumer Products at Riot Games, literature based on League of Legends is an idea that has long been wanted to develop. “Stories play a very important role in exploring our world and champions in a deep way. This is a story of Runeterra and will provide more information about the events that formed the most important characters,” he said.
