Rescue Mission (Extraction inspired by the Tyler Rake comics) will have its sequel ready for this year. After becoming the most watched movie on Netflix at the time of its release, the story of Tyler Rake (character of Chris Hemsworth) could not end definitively. This film reached 231.34 million hours in the first 28 days that saw the film beating big tanks such as Blind (Bird Box), Mystery on Board (Murder Mystery) and Squadron 6 (6 Underground). Then other big bombs would arrive on Netflix that would surpass the Rescue Mission such as Red Notice and Don't Look Up.
Although the end of the first film finally closed the fate of this rescuer, the writers managed to give it a twist. This way we will have more Rake missions in this second part, which will be directed again by Sam Hargrave while brothers Anthony and Joe Russo will act as executive producers of the film. Joe, in turn, will be the screenwriter of Rescue Mission 2.
Although the film was initially to be filmed in Sydney, Australia, where Hemsworth originates from, restrictions imposed by Covid caused the action to move to Prague, Czech Republic where most of the scenes were shot. The truth is that on March 19 filming came to an end and now it entered the final stage of post-production.
SPOILER ATTENTION. Let's remember that at the end of the first film, Tyler's character had been fatally wounded in Dhaka, Bangladesh, trying to rescue the young man he had been given on a mission. With a cliffhanger that led to a possible continuation (and also a definitive end), the first option was chosen after the tremendous reception of Netflix consumers.
Death didn't finally knock on his door and now he and his team will be back in search of a new mission. Tyler must infiltrate one of the most dangerous prisons in the world to rescue a family that was imprisoned by a Georgian gangster. The conflict will begin when this nefarious man dies in the middle of the rescue and his brother moves to take revenge on Tyler and his entire team.
In the middle of the film's shooting, the Thor actor joked about his character and posted on the Russo brothers Instagram account: “First day of shooting in Extraction 2. Two things are different from the last film. One: very, very cold. Two, I'm alive. How? You'll have to find out. Watch the movie. Stay tuned.”
Joe Russo also referred to Tyler and said that this man turned hero “was only meant to imply hope. Whether real or a product of the child's imagination, it is an artistic and poetic way of implying that Ovi (a character he has to rescue in the first film) had a guardian who was watching him and who managed to save his life. And in the future he has a chance at a normal life.”
Hemsworth is joined in this new installment by Adam Bessa (Mosul), who replays the role of Yaz, Rayna Campbell (Maleficent: Lover of Evil), as Ruthie, Tinatin Dalakishivili (the Georgian actress and model) will be Ketevan, actor Patrick Newall will play Seb while Dato Bakhtadze ( Wanted) will play the role of Avtandil.
Rescue Mission 2 does not yet have a release date, but what is sure to be released on Netflix.
