Peruvian National Team: Christian Cueva and the physical preparation with José Neyra who got his best version

The steering wheel of the 'bicolor' is one of the indispensable elements in the starting eleven for Ricardo Gareca, not only because of his game, but also because of the dedication he has been carrying with his physical form.

Christian Cueva is one of the most talented players to have won Peruvian football in the last 15 years. And although his career has been a carousel of ups and downs, in recent years he has been experiencing a positive change that he has been able to transfer to the club level, as with the Peruvian national team. In that sense, one of the people responsible for this new version of the player is José Neyra, a Peruvian fitness trainer who has worked with him in recent months to offer his best performance.

The same personal trainer gave an interview for the 'Football in America' program and spoke from his relationship with 'Aladino' to the demanding work he has been doing and even his contact with the technical command of the 'blanquirroja'.

“Christian is unpredictable. Just as it is unpredictable and you don't know, it brings out a genius, it's just like it's off it (the court)”, Neyra began by saying about Cueva's character, although later she explained that at first she met him there was that chemistry to make his work easier. “From the first moment there was that affinity, that connection, as if we had known each other for a long time. He told me I needed to count on my job. That I found in me the person in whom I felt the security that could motivate him to work, he said.

To get to this situation, José told an anecdote that surprised him and caused him to move his work in Lima to Trujillo, a city where Cueva spent his holidays at the end of 2020. At that time, the often footballer had been separated from Turkey's Yeni Malatyaspor due to problems with the coach and was waiting to find a new team. That's how he hired Jose to work with him. “I have a van in Chorrillos. Go and get it out,” he told me. He didn't even ask me if I was driving, he was brief, nothing. So I drove his truck, without knowing us, to Trujillo, he said.

However, the most important thing came later, when he talked with him seriously to recover his best version. “I didn't come to take a picture with you, to say that I trained with Christian. This is the opportunity for me to show myself, to improve the quality of life of my family, because it is my job. And the opportunity for you to return to that performance that will put you in the place where you need to be, he told Cueva.

SUPERVISION OF THE TECHNICAL COMMAND OF PERU

Now, this extra training he has done with José Neyra has been no stranger to the technical command of the national team, since Néstor Bonillo, physical trainer from Peru, has been aware of this growth. “I travel in September 2021. Before the trip, I have the first communication with Néstor Bonillo. He told me what we all wanted, that we do the work to get Christian back. It also gave me the freedom to work and that's what I liked the most. We have talked to Néstor since I started Saudi Arabia until today,” explained the specialist, who added that the evolution of the national player has been 60% to 70% in the work in Saudi Arabia, where he plays for Al-Fateh, where he plays for Al-Fateh, where he plays for Al-Fateh, where he plays has 8 goals and 5 assists in 20 matches played this season.

CRITICS

On the other hand, he believes that he has gone very unfair to the former Alianza Lima with regard to the criticism he received for having been involved in extra-sports problems. “When we were wrong and he had some mistake, we hit him hard. But behind Christian there is a family, there are some children who have a hard time when he had a hard time. And very few stand up to that situation. It happens to everyone in life, we are emotionally unstable, we had to do a job here (points to the top of the head). Empirically, I did for many years as a psychologist. And look how everything was prepared for this opportunity,” he said.

DREAM AND CAVE LIMIT

Finally, he made clear the dream of the 30-year-old player and the faith he has in him. His desire is to be in the World Cup once again. I have tremendous faith in him. We have not yet seen all the capacity that Christian has, he concluded.
