María Camila Osorio continues to consolidate itself as the best women's racket in the country, but also at the Latin American level. On March 21, she appeared in 34th place on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) list, the best in her professional career, while the next Latina is the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia.

The 20-year-old Cucuteña had her best position (35) after the completion of the WTA 250 in Monterrey, in which she fell in the final to Canadian title defender Leylah Fernández. It is worth remembering that the match was not without controversy, because, when the coffee maker was about to win, there was a blackout of some lights, which is why it was suspended for a few minutes.

His next participation, after the open held in Mexico, was the first round of the BNP Paribas 2022 Open, also known as the Indian Wells Masters 1000. Then, on March 10, facing Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich, she decided to leave the match and lost by retirement in the sixth game of the second set. The reason: some discomfort in his arm, which he had already felt in other competitions.

The next tournament that Osorio will bet on will be the WTA 250 in Bogotá (Colsanitas Cup), of which she was crowned champion in the 2021 edition, and which will take place from 2 to 10 April at the Bogotá Country Club.

Last year, in the open final, Osorio defeated Tamara Zidansek in the final with partials of 5-7, 6-3 and 6-4, thus capturing her first title on the world's top tennis circuit.

If she succeeds in defending the championship, Osorio will become the second local tennis player with more than one title in the Colsanitas Tournament, as Fabiola Zuluaga won this competition four times: 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Osorio's first competition this year was the Australian Open, where it didn't go as expected, given that she was eliminated in the first round by Japan's Naomi Osaka. Resilient, she improved both her confidence and her play in the WTA 250 in Guadalajara: in the qualifying match she beat Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (6-4 and 6-3) and in the round of 16 the American Hailey Baptiste, with partials of 1-6, 6-3 and 6-3. In the fourth quarter, she was defeated by Russian Anna Kalinskaya.

Then, prior to the Indian Wells Masters 1000, she played the Monterrey Open, in which she was defeated 7-6, 6-4 and 7-6. It outraged the Colombians that when Osorio won 6-5 in the last set, at the final point by championship some lights went out, so the match stopped 10 minutes, a fact that visibly affected her. In the end, in the tie break, he lost.

This is how the Colombians were placed in the WTA Ranking:
