2020 was a year in which the vast majority of artistic activities were forced to cease indefinitely. The quarantines paused concerts, plays and all kinds of events that are best lived in person, and it was precisely that isolation, added to the anguish of the pandemic, that generated mental health disorders in millions of people.

This was the case of singer Manuel Turizo, who two years after the health emergency was decreed in the country, revealed that a picture of anxiety had developed and it was precisely the quarantine period that triggered that condition. In fact, in dialogue with La Red, the monterian said that he had felt an “emotional block”, which was added a full year of inactivity in his singing career.

“That's why too, do you understand me? I personally wasn't connected, I was with my head blocked,” said the artist, also expressing his frustration at not being able to execute the plans he had for the time when covid-19 forced people to be in constant quarantines.

“I even feel that ambitious people, - I say it in the field of dreams that we want to achieve many things -, I think we are more likely to have anxiety,” said the interpreter of 'Let her come back', 'A lady like you' and 'Love me while you can', a song where, precisely, he mentions the world ravages left by the viruses.

In that sense, Turizo was forceful in saying that despite that mental illness, the reasons for continuing are greater: “Anxiety cannot kill you,” he said.

“Young people feel anxious because we don't know where to go”: Manuel Turizo

In the talk with the aforementioned program, Turizo was clear in indicating that adolescence and youth are the stages where episodes of anxiety manifest most heavily, mentioning that this process is part of knowing what direction they should take in their lives.

“Obviously - youth and adolescence - are the ages where we are meeting (...) but it is also necessary, because that is what makes us move and not sit still,” said the Colombian, who clarified in passing that he has not been diagnosed with depression. “I think it even shows me that I'm not the case.”

He also spared no words when he confessed how depression manifests itself in his body, specifying that reluctance and lack of motivation are the main signs: “There are times when you don't have your mind focused on what it is, and it depresses you”, and he took the opportunity to conclude that “doing what you like” is one of the main motivations he manages to minimize depressive symptoms.

“This is how you take care of mental health; disconnecting and, in reality, reconnecting with you, brother, do you understand me? And to work on another revolution, to meditate, to be with your family”, reiterating that another key is to do the activities that one is most passionate about, and in that sense, he concluded by saying that he lost “the fear of doing what I can't do”.

It is worth mentioning that, previously, the Monteria-born had not been related to his mental health, even on social networks, where he constantly shares photos related to his lifestyle and the busy life he leads in the midst of his presentations.
