After two years and five months of construction, on March 21, the Government of Mexico inaugurated the first phase of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in Santa Lucia; a work to which the journalist, Carlos Loret de Mola, pointed out of “chafa”.

Despite pending connectivity works, the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), assured that his Government completed construction in its entirety. However, the communicator contradicted this by assuring that the work is still unfinished and inefficient for users and traders.

In his column for El Universal, Loret even pointed out that Felipe Ángeles would not have even received the safety certification requested by transnational airlines, which is why it was only possible to agree on a commercial flight with the Venezuelan company Conviasa - which would serve to “boast the category international”, he said.

According to estimates by federal authorities, 20 flights (between domestic, international, commercial and private) are planned for the first day of operations. An amount that was also criticized by the columnist when comparing it with the activity that is usually recorded by the Mexico City International (AICM).

In this way, Loret de Mola accused the administration of “resorting to extortion” to ensure the functioning of the new air base. This is due to the tabasqueño statement in which he indicated that no more permits would be granted to operate in the capital.

“A decision has already been made (...) Everything that involves an increase must already be attended to at Felipe Ángeles Airport,” he said on the morning of March 17.

But not enough, the journalist also denounced that, according to testimonies, some military commanders had threatened AICM merchants, exchange offices and restaurants to decide whether to settle “safely” in AIFA, or relocate them to less attractive areas of the terminal.

On the other hand, the Latinus collaborator tapped Epigmenio Ibarra for the documentary dedicated to Felipe Ángeles Airport, after accusing him of converting General in charge of its construction, Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suárez, in a “soap opera character”.

In this vein, he pointed out that Felipe Ángeles not only strengthened the presence of the Armed Forces in the political circle, but also “stained the military uniform” with accusations of alleged embezzlement of millionaire funds - and despite which it has not been possible to ensure the profitability of AIFA for the next few years years: “It's not going to be business in this six-year term, it's going to continue to cost money.”

“With these elements, if López Obrador were in the opposition, he would be tearing him to pieces. But the president considers it a success to show off,” he concluded.
