Leticia Calderón on International Down Syndrome Day: “We don't want your pity, we want your respect”

The actress shared a series of photographs with her son Luciano Collado, who lives with this congenital alteration.

Leticia Calderón is one of the actresses who has not only made clear her unconditional support for people living with down syndrome, as is the case with her son Luciano Collado, but has also constantly fought for their rights in Mexican society as she has exhibited on more than one occasion the great abuses and discrimination suffered by them and in most cases were not transcended by lack of knowledge.

Under the framework of International Down Syndrome Day, the actress shared a series of photographs with her firstborn son where not only can they be seen very happy posing before their cell phone camera, but also in a very moving way she gave him a brief account of what his life has been like as Luciano's mother and as a relative of a person who lives with SdD, so he forcefully demanded respect and assured that if families had at least one member like that everyone would be different.

We don't want your pity, we want your respect. International Day of Down Syndrome. If every family had a person with SDD this world would be wonderful,” he wrote as a caption to the publication that already has more than 40,000 likes on his official Instagram account.

The message and the photographs provoked a series of positive comments in which the followers of the actress of melodramas such as Together The Heart Is Never Wrong, Por Amar Sin Law and Mujeres De Negro have shown her a lot of respect and admiration for being an “exemplary” mother who has defended her son with cloak and sword despite the bad intentions that some people have come to have with their family and Luciano.

“God bless you; I love people who live with down syndrome. You have to live with them to know what they are like, super special beings, loving, affectionate, pure of heart, they give a totally different and unconditional love”, “Dear Lety you are one of the 'famous' moms that I admire most in Mexican entertainment because there is no doubt that you are a real human being on television and outside of it”, “I wish more moms who have children with SDD are like you and will not abandon them as soon as they know they are different,” they wrote in their comment box.

A few days ago in an interview with the program Hoy, the television star told how she is getting ready for the new stage of her little Luciano's life: “She is learning to be independent, she still lacks of course, tomorrow I think we are going to give her the opportunity,” she said.

Lety Calderón showed her enthusiasm to see her son fly during his independence, so she is already preparing the necessary procedures for him to have stability.

“The apartment is already paid thanks to God, we just need to write it down and wait to see when it can go to live alone. My two sons jumped off the parachute and (Luciano) starts sending Marjorie kisses from the air, I think I'm going to get jealous,” she said. This is how Calderón prepares her son for independence, meanwhile, she cares for him and educates him to have a prosperous future.

Down syndrome is a congenital disorder that is linked to the total or partial tripling of chromosome 21, which causes mental and growth retardation and causes certain physical abnormalities. The UN General Assembly decreed in 2011 that March 21 of each year should be celebrated World Down Syndrome Day, with the aim of raising public awareness of this issue and recalling the valuable contributions of people with intellectual disabilities.
