Assistant manager of Camu, would have killed a student with a firearm in Cereté

The crime reportedly happened against the one identified as Alesio Otero, when in the middle of a drinking meeting he had an altercation with Javier Soto Saibis, who allegedly shot him twice in the abdomen

On March 19 at dawn in a house located on Avenida Santander in the municipality of Cereté, the assistant manager of the E.S.E Camu El Prado de Cereté, Javier Soto Saibis, allegedly involved in a fight with law student Alesio Otero. According to witnesses' accounts, at the meeting of drinks Otero would have mentioned a comment that would upset Soto, so they had a fistful dispute, but after that Javier Soto would have gone to his home for his firearm to return and shoot Alesio Otero twice in the abdomen.

The commander of the Monteria Metropolitan Police, Colonel Wilson Montenegro commented: “The quadrants begin the search and location of the person responsible for the events. The first investigations show that these people were leaving in a house and, apparently, there was a quarrel between them, the alleged aggressor went to their residence and brought a gun with which he caused the injuries. This person once committed the deed, left the scene and at this time is being sought to answer for the facts.”

The young Alesio Otero died in a health center in the city of Monteria due to the bullets that remained inside him, about this the mayor's office of Cereté said: “We deeply regret the acts of intolerance that occurred on Saturday, March 19 in the early hours that led to the death of Alesio Raúl Otero Flórez and that involve an official of the ESE Camu del Prado in this municipality,” said Mayor Antonio Rhenals.

Soto Saibis indicated that the authorities are in search of him and that he is naturally separated from his post: “The competent bodies have been asked to carry out all the investigations necessary for justice to act in this case in accordance with the law and effectively. The Manager of the ESE Camu del Prado has been ordered to immediately remove from office Soto Saibis, deputy administrative manager of this institution.”

Soto Saibis in 2020 would have starred in an episode of shooting again but on that occasion he assured that he did it for protection since he was going to be robbed. For their part, the family of the dead law student request the full weight of the authorities so that this crime does not go unpunished.

The mayor of Cereté Antonio Rhenals concluded: “To the family, friends and the community in general we express our heartfelt condolences, asking God to grant them strength in these hard times and praying that the Lord grant eternal peace to the soul of young Alesio Otero Florez.”

Violent deaths are a constant in the country, almost 1,200 people would have been killed during the month of December 2021 alone in Colombia. A violent year that returned the homicide figures to the levels of seven years ago, according to the consolidated last year of the National Police revealed by the newspaper El Tiempo.

According to the information provided by the newspaper in the annual report of the Police, during 2021, 13,709 people lost their lives violently, which is an increase of 13% compared to 2020, when 12,127 cases were registered. Although the first year of the pandemic was an atypical period for high-impact crimes due to isolation measures, it also means an increase of 6% compared to 2019.
