The results presented by the National Registry Office on the legislative elections that took place on March 13 have raised multiple criticisms from different sectors. The reason is that both in networks and in the places of the ballot boxes different citizens reported irregularities in the pre-counting process. Because the number of votes recorded did not match the E-14 formats and in these, there were also studs, badly done sums and so on.
During this week that Colombians have spent in networks, just as politicians have spoken out against what has happened, some ask for recount, others point out that it is best to recognize errors, others do not want to recognize other results; and so for eight days the trend in networks has been what some point to fraud and others point out they believe are isolated errors.
Faced with this scenario of polarization and dispute, some politicians have mentioned in their networks the importance of democracy and its defense. One of these is Alejandro Gaviria, who also criticized those who do not want to recognize the real results.
“The real commitment to democracy is evident when it is lost, when the results are adverse. The defense of democracy, in the face of opportunistic attacks that do great harm, that undermine legitimacy, is an imperative. I defend democracy”, triune the member of the Centro Esperanza Coalition and who attached to his thread a piece of news that the former presidents Álvaro Uribe and Andrés Pastrana do not know the results where the Historical Pact wins.
Let us remember that, through social networks, Uribe Vélez, today investigated for procedural fraud and witness manipulation, launched one of his well-known trills and left an impetuous message in which he distorted what was announced by the national registrar, Alexander Vega and criticized several of the anomalies recorded during the March 13 elections.
“These elections leave all mistrust. E 14 full of studs, amendments, signatures that don't match. Added to the inconsistencies is the overwhelming vote on petrianism in drug trafficking areas. This result cannot be accepted,” said the natural head of the Democratic Center, a party that lost a seat after the counting of votes.
Along the same lines, former president Andrés Pastrana, predecessor of Uribe, reacted from the conservative awnings of the country, who in the same vein was launched against the Registrar's Office and against the political coalition of the presidential candidate, Gustavo Petro.
“The official figures of the Registrar reek of fraud in favor of the Historical Pact. The government must hire, with the approval of the actors of the election, two independent international firms for the forensic analysis of the Registrar's proceedings last Sunday,” said Pastrana.
Pastrana's accusations about Indra's alleged interference to alter the elections are not new. Last February, the former president had drawn attention to an alleged meeting of Gustavo Petro with company executives.
“The reasons for Petro's suspicious meeting today in Madrid with the president of Indra, contractor and software provider for the Registry and the National Electoral Council, must be clarified to the country ahead of the elections,” Pastrana said through her Twitter account.
At that time, the Registrar had to go out and say that the process was not in charge of a private company but, on the contrary, would be in the hands of the State. This was ordered by the Council of State. The system was then operated by the Registrar's Office and was supervised by political parties and international organizations.
