BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Yulimar Rojas is homeless.
Becoming the first winner of three indoor world titles in the triple jump, the Venezuelan flew 15.74 meters to break the world record.
With the last jump of the competition on Sunday in Belgrade, the 26-year-old Olympic champion reached a mark that no one had achieved either outdoors or indoors.
The jump eclipsed her own record of 15.67, set last August by becoming Olympic champion in Tokyo. He also shredded by 31 centimeters his previous best personal record on the indoor track, the 15.43 meters achieved in Madrid in February 2020.
“This is like a dream,” Rojas said. “I had fun.”
The final was another personal exhibition by Rojas. He jumped 15.19 meters on the first attempt to jump as a sign of intentions, with a null in the second, 15.04 on the third and another null.
She reached 15.36 in the fifth, falling just seven centimeters short of her own indoor world record.
It was the rehearsal for the sixth attempt.
Waving with repeated “let's go” to the public, Rojas returned for his fifth gold in a world championship — outdoors (2017 and 2019) and indoor (2016 and 2018).
The second place in Belgrade went to Ukraine's Maryna Bej-Romanchuk with 14.74 meters. The third was the Jamaican Kimberly Williams with 14.62 meters.
And what's next for Rojas?
The 16-metre border, of course.
“I want to reach 16 meters. I was born to jump them. It's what motivates me the most,” Rojas said.
