US Congressmen asked Biden to investigate the AMLO government for violating T-MEC agreements

For some US Congressmen, the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is violating the agreements signed in the Free Trade Agreement (T-MEC) on energy, so they asked President Joe Biden to investigate them.

Through a letter signed by Clay Higgins and 39 other legislators to Carolyn Maloney, a member of the House of Representatives and chair of the Oversight and Reform Committee, they expressed concern that AMLO would be increasing the exclusion actions of American companies with its “nationalist policies” to favor the parastatal Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex).

“The Mexican National Guard has already seized multiple U.S. corporate energy assets and has not offered any resources for US companies to reopen their illegally closed commercial operations,” they said.

They even indicated that Carolyn Maloney “has been aware of these illegal acts for months.”

In addition, they accused that the Biden government allowed Pemex to “acquire a refining facility in Deer Park, Texas.”

Therefore, the congressmen requested that a hearing be convened for the House Committee on Surveillance and Government Reform to investigate Mexico's actions on its energy policies and see to what extent it is in breach of the treaty.

They assured that if they do not act, “Mexican corruption in the oil and gas sectors will continue to affect its citizens: “American jobs are lost, companies face bankruptcy, and the American people face energy prices that continue to rise due to failures in administration policies Biden”.

They added that the government “is allowing Mexico to violate the USMCA and discharge “high-sulfur oil” that will produce “pollution and increasing emissions.”

According to the letter, the Biden administration has committed itself to maintaining the trade relationship with the neighbouring country, however, “few measures have been taken related to energy”.

President Biden has not yet spoken about it.
