MEXICO CITY (AP) — Goalkeeper Luis Malagon made key saves, Uruguayan Rodrigo Aguirre signed a double and Necaxa surprised the Pumas by defeating them 3-1 away on Saturday in the Mexican Clasura tournament.
Alan Medina first shook the nets in 20 minutes and Aguirre converted a penalty at 27 and topped at 60 for the Rayos to secure their second consecutive win.
Aguirre scored five goals and has already exceeded the total of his previous two tournaments in the country, where he arrived in last year's Clausura.
Necaxa accumulates 14 points with which it is placed in eighth position pending the other results of the eleventh date.
The Brazilian Diogo de Oliveira discounted at 68 for Pumas, who had just advanced to the Concacaf semifinals in the middle of the week, but in the league he suffered his third consecutive defeat and could not win since the fifth date.
The university students remain with 11 units, in the 12th position.
Pumas had the first clear goal arrivals in the 15 minutes, with headers from Argentina's Juan Dinenno and Nicolás Freire, both cancelled with saves from goalkeeper Luis Malagón.
Soon after, Dieter Villalpando stole a ball at the exit of Pumas on the left and sent a cross to Medina, who scored with a flush shot.
The visiting team expanded their lead when Argentina's Fabio Alvarez knocked down Idekel Domínguez inside the box for a penalty that Aguirre converted with a powerful shot that hit the left post before going to the back of the net.
Before the break, the university students knocked on door again with a shot by the Brazilian Higor Meritao who was rejected by Malagón.
Necaxa headed for the match when Medina sent a right cross to the heart of the area, where Aguirre took advantage of the poor local score to connect a solid header that left goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera without a chance.
Pumas approached when De Oliveira took advantage of a left cross and overcame his score to head, leaving Malagón without a chance.
