Tourists crowd Mexican beaches during the first days of the megapuente

Thousands of Mexicans traveled to different tourist destinations throughout the country during the night of Friday and the early hours of Saturday, to enjoy the vacation mega-bridge of the birth of Benito Juárez, former president of Mexico

For example, the Ministry of Tourism of Oaxaca estimated that the bridge will leave an economic spill of 184 million pesos to that entity, as more than 50,000 visitors were expected to arrive in the capital and the beaches of Huatulco and Puerto Escondido.

For its part, the Ministry of Tourism of Guerrero reported that this destination woke up this Saturday with 62.3% hotel occupancy in the Port of Acapulco, where a few weeks ago the Mexican Tennis Open (AMT) was held.

The authority detailed that the occupation is expected to reach more than 70% during the rest of the weekend.

And the state of Quintana Roo is not far behind. On Friday, it was estimated that 380 thousand travelers were already occupying the hotels on the main beaches of Cancun and the Riviera Maya.

On February 28, Mexico celebrated two years since the first confirmed case of coronavirus.

In this regard, on March 18, the Ministry of Health reported that, for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, the entire territory is in “green” (low risk of contagion) at the epidemiological traffic light on COVID-19.

During 2022, the arrival of international tourists to Mexico is expected to be 36.7 million travelers, which would represent a fall of 18.4% compared to pre-pandemic levels, and thus the country would experience three consecutive years of declines in tourist flows due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to an analysis by the Center for Tourism Research and Competitiveness (Cicotur) Anáhuac, foreign exchange earnings by international visitors are expected to reach 23.8 billion dollars, which despite representing a 19.5% increase compared to 2021, would still be -3.2% of what was recorded in 2019.
