On March 20, the Attorney General's Office announced that through joint work with the Specialized Directorate Against Drug Trafficking, and the National Police, Ingrid Edith Varón Cadena, alias La Mona, was captured, who would be responsible for laundering assets for the criminal structure known as 'The Great Alliance'. The event would have occurred in the capital of Vallecaucana, after a long follow-up to the case.
Let us remember that “La Gran Alianza” is a criminal structure that would initially be led by Greylin Fernando Varón Cadena, known as 'Martín Bala' and brother of 'La Mona', according to the Prosecutor's Office it is made up of some former members of the drug trafficking cartels in Valle del Cauca, which ends through this alliance regain criminal control over several areas of the department, through violent disputes with other illegal organizations.
Currently, it would have a large presence in Bogotá and would be led by Walter Andrés Penagos, alias' Capulina ', remembered for being the right-hand man Wilber Varela, alias' Jabón ', one of the main kingpins of the North del Valle cartel, killed in 2008 in Venezuela.
In addition, as La Opinión pointed out, this band would also be part of the band alias 'Fine Furniture' who was requested by the Court for the Southern District of Florida for sending narcotics to the United States from February 1997 until mid-2012; and who is related to the issue of 'drug prosecutors' in Cali, a scandal that was discovered in February 2021 and to date it has not progressed.
Male Cadena is accused of being the articulator of the financial movements and the one responsible for giving the appearance of legality to the monies that moved the drug trafficking structure, in addition, the accused has a request for extradition from Spain to answer to Section 16 of the Provincial High Court of Madrid on charges related to transnational drug trafficking and money - laundering.
Who is Martín Bala, the brother of the captured
Alias Martín Bala maintained control of illicit economies in different links of drug trafficking in the North of the Valley in association with Mexican cartels, exporting cocaine from the Colombian Pacific to the United States, according to the Police. In addition, he was arrested in 2013 for the crime of manufacturing, trafficking, carrying firearms or ammunition and escaping prisoners. He was released in 2016 and returned to Cali to regain his criminal emporium, but his plans were halted in May 2019 amid a gunfight when he tried to flee authority.
According to Semana Magazine, Martín Bala's best-known enemies are the Calle Serna brothers, alias the Comba, the top ringleaders of the Rastrojos currently arrested in the United States, with whom Varón clashed in 2005.
Authorities say that together with Negro Orlando and Carlos Robayo, alias Guacamayo, other drug traffickers, Martín Bala is responsible for the murders that have terrorized Cali, due to disputes over the routes of sending cocaine abroad and that today it remains in force by those inherited from the criminal structure, which was related to the case of Mauricio Leal because of the large sums of money that the famous stylist handled.
