After a month ago the alarms went off in Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato, due to the presence of a tiger that was on the loose in the area of Ojo de Agua, Rancho Viejo and Tierrablanca, the early morning of this Sunday, March 20, the State Civil Protection Unit of the municipality of Huimilpan, Querétaro, reported the location and “neutralization” of a feline with similar characteristics in the community of La Peña.

The authorities emphasized that they had to “neutralize” the feline, apparently with a firearm, because it posed a danger to the safety of the peasants' population and livestock. This determination caused annoyance to several social media users. “In my opinion, the fact that they have had 'no choice but to kill him' is due to their inability to respond to these situations, due to ignorance, lack of equipment, lack of protocols, etc.,” one netizen wrote on Twitter.

Authorities reported in a statement that it could be the same tiger that was initially wanted in the municipality of Apaseo el Grande and that in recent days it would have caused attacks on livestock. Staff of the Municipal Directorate of Public Security and Civil Protection state and municipal were in charge of the work.

The State Civil Protection Unit reported that it could be the tiger that was initially sought in the municipality of Apaseo el Grande

CEPCQ reported that in recent days it received several reports from people in Querétaro claiming to have seen the tiger in the vicinity of the La Peña community, as well as attacks on farm animals in areas around Apaseo El Grande. Assistance was also requested from the Animal Control Unit of the municipality of El Marqués for support in the care, transfer and conduct of the corresponding tests to verify that it is the same tiger.

On Sunday, February 20, the municipal authorities of Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato, alerted the population to the presence of a loose tiger in the area of Ojo de Agua, Rancho Viejo and Tierrablanca, asking the population to remain alert and avoid traveling on unpopulated roads, as well as avoid wandering along the Mt.

Through a statement, the municipality of the entity indicated that, prior to alerting, it carried out a thorough analysis, which consisted of collecting information and testimonies from citizens, in order to identify the characteristics of the feline and the possible location it would have.

This is the second time that something similar has happened in the country, because in November 2021, through social networks, several users shared photos and videos of a bengal tiger that was captured while walking in the municipality of Tapalpa, Jalisco.

In November, Jalisco experienced a similar event (Photo: Twitter/ @Eloy_Arellano)

In the videos you could see the tiger near a metal fence that is close to a private property. The feline was walking along the Atemajac-Tapalpa highway that is between the community of La Frontera and Juanacatlán, where several motorists stood in line and stopped to take photos and videos, which caused vehicular traffic.

Twitter user @Eloy_Arellano indicated on his account: “Video circulates on social networks where they capture a tiger on the edge of the road that goes from the municipality of Juanacatlán to Tapalpa, Jalisco. So far there are several images captured by different 1/2″ people. In the video he shared in the tweet, he hears that he tells his companion “raise your glass more” and they say that the animal is very large.

The State Secretariat of Environment and Territorial Development made a report that the Bengal tiger was caught and that it is not the first time they find it in the area because it escapes its owners, so far they have not reported any more information about the owners or what they will do with the feline.
