They admit guardianship against the CNE due to delays in the recall of the mayor of Medellín

The problem would be related to the delay in the certification of the financial accounts of the revocation process. The guardians say that this fact would violate their right to participation and political control

In the midst of the recall process against the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, which has been postponed several times, a new alleged irregularity emerged. The committees that promote the recall filed a guardianship against the National Electoral Council (CNE) and the National Registry Office and the action was admitted by the High Court of Medellin. The guardians argue that the aforementioned entities are delaying the implementation of the mechanism.

The guardians, under the spokesman of councilman Julio González Villa, sponsor of the recall, denounced that the main problem they face now is the delay in the certification of the financial accounts of the recall process. This, taking into account that these were endorsed by the Registrar's Office more than two months ago. They assure that this fact would violate the right to political participation and control of mandate revocations.

In addition to the guardianship filed by González Villa, it should be mentioned that other citizens also denounced the CNE for the same reason, which is why it was decided to respond to all these actions. A deadline for the decision has not been indicated, but it is expected that it will be resolved before the end of March.

To date Mayor Quintero has not spoken for the admission of guardianship, however, it can be assured that the president is convinced that the proceedings against him will not continue. T he politician from Antioquia has asserted that there is evidence that the recall has been financed with public resources, which is illegal, therefore, it would be failed.

“Today I want to present a very serious piece of evidence, which would show that the recall was financed with public resources. I have documents that prove this,” said Mayor Quintero on February 17, and then he showed two documents that would support his complaint.

Quintero said that the recall accountant, identified as Sofía León Rojas, received 15 million pesos as payment for her fees with resources from the support unit of Councilor González Villa. The documents that the president showed to the media and which, according to him, would prove this irregularity, are the contract for the provision of services of the professional and the payment support.

“There had never been a contract with her, it is made in the same period in which the contract for the recall is made, there is no report; that is, the recall committee does not present the payment that was made to the accountant. Why? Because the payment was made on the other hand,” questioned the mayor.

Quintero assured that the amount indicated would have already been paid 7.5 million, and accused the recall committee of carrying out this transfer with resources from the Council of Medellín.

Another argument highlighted by the mayor is that Rojas would have benefited from an irregular payment scheme, having signed a contract with the committee promoting the Pact for Medellín recall, and then another with the support unit of Councilman González.
