Stephanie Cayo's name has been trending on Twitter since the Netflix will present the first trailer for the film “Until we meet again”. Dozens of Twitter users immediately questioned the film because they chose the Cayo family member as the protagonist.
This is because many consider that an actress with Andean traits would have been better suited to the plot, since the film has Machu Picchu as its main stage. They also criticized that the seventh wonder of the world is the setting for such a “cliché” story.
It should be noted that Stephanie Cayo herself decided to speak out on her platform to make it clear that “Until we meet again” does not seek to represent Andean women, much less to have her as a reference for the inhabitants of Cusco. In addition, she recommended her followers to focus on working for their dreams just as she does.
USERS DEFEND THE ACTRESS AND THE FILM
A major Twitter group congratulated and flattered Stephanie Cayo's work for starring in the first Peruvian film produced by the Netflix streaming platform and was in favor of the film, as it will put Cusco in the eyes of the world at the cinematic level.
“Stephanie Cayo is talented and gorgeous, a pride for her family and Peru...”, "Absurd that Peruvians waste their time fighting over a film in relation to skin color, hair or eyes”, “A film is a fiction, if they want something closer to 'reality' in the cinema, they could watch a documentary”, they are some of the user's posts.
It is worth mentioning that when it was announced that Netflix would make its first production in Peru, a few days later the COVID-19 pandemic began and it had to be suspended, so it was not known if this project would finally see the light.
BRUNO ASCENZO ALSO DEFENDS HIMSELF AGAINST CRITICISM
After the release of his film, director Bruno Ascenzo had an interview with RPP and pointed out that the idea of having recorded in different parts of our country was to attract the attention of foreign audiences and thus encourage them to visit Peru.
“It is important that we realize what we have, many countries use the film industry to make themselves known to the world: 'Game of Thrones' and Croatia, many productions that help to reactivate certain industries that have been affected by the pandemic. I wish the film was able to contribute to it and achieve it a little bit, with that to say: 'task accomplished'”, he said.
“My idea was to make a travel film, initially it wasn't a 100% romantic comedy, that started to be built once Netflix entered the gaming scene, but it was a film that was sketched, it could be like that, I would like to go to such locations, at the beginning you didn't go through the three locations where in the end you were rolled”, he commented.
