San Marcos University: When was the last time an admission exam was cancelled

Marcel Velásquez, professor at the Dean of America and author of the book “The children of the plague”, told this story that happened 45 years ago.

On the afternoon of Saturday, March 19, Rector Jeri Ramón declared, at a press conference that the 2022 II admission examination of the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) was cancelled due to to the leak of the entrance exam. There were claims and criticisms from students for this decision that would leave thousands of students without studies.

The essayist Marcel Velásquez, professor of this house of studies and author of the book “The children of the plague”, told when an admission exam for that house of studies was last canceled.

“The last time the admission process in San Marcos was canceled was in 1977. The exam was given in two days, 140 questions each. The daughter of the Director General of the PIP was running for Medicine and the police officers responsible for providing security stole the exam,” her story began.

“The night before she had the exam, but she couldn't solve it and she called several friends who were also applying. Thus the exam circulated a lot. The next day, dozens got the same result. From there, the university itself assumed the security of the process. Source: several teachers,” he added.

The same professor, after hearing the news, had apologized for what had happened with the cancellation of the UNMSM examination.

“Given the evidence of fraud, the rector declares the invalidity of the entire 2022-II admission process at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Our university at its most difficult time. As a teacher, I apologize to all applicants for this institutional failure,” he wrote.

UNMSM DECLARED THE REVIEW INVALID

The authorities of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) cancelled the 2022-II admission process, indicating that they were aware that the knowledge test required to enter the studies had been leaked.

“In the absence of the prosecutor for crime prevention, the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos finds it necessary to declare the entire 2022-II admission process null and void because the evidence has been leaked during the hours of this examination,” rector Jeri Ramón said at a press conference in the city of the Dean of America and added that this is done to safeguard the prestige of the educational institution.

“The payment (by way of entitlement to the admission exam) of applicants is assured and the exam will be scheduled for a new date, taking all the precautions there have been and to have,” he added.

Last week's and this weekend's tests were suspended and other dates will be known to take the admission exam that leaves thousands of students without a choice of studies.

“We ask for parents' understanding. We cannot allow students to enter buying tests and who have not dedicated themselves to studying. San Marcos is competition, San Marcos cannot afford to receive traders within our beloved alma mater,” he said.

“San Marcos is not sold, San Marcos defends itself,” the rector concluded at the press conference despite the demand of students and criticism on social media.
