In an operation carried out on the Ruta del Sol in Santander, two people were captured carrying a ton of marijuana in the middle of several cardboard boxes in a van, who had left Valle del Cauca.
During the procedure, the uniformed men noticed that foreign elements were hidden behind the recyclable material; they were 1,500 packages lined in plastic bags that, inside, contained marijuana.
“In total it was a ton, plus fourteen kilos of 'crippy' marijuana that we managed to seize, in addition to the arrest of the two people who were transported in the vehicle at that time,” reported Colonel Alexander Sánchez, commander of the Magdalena Medio Police Department.
The seizure amounted to a million 14 thousand doses in the microtrafficking market. “We deal a resounding blow to organizations dedicated to drug trafficking and the most important thing is that we take this amount of doses out of the microtrafficking market,” said Colonel Sánchez.
The authorities reported that they maintain special and constant operations to counter the transport of narcotic drugs on the main roads of the Magdalena Medio region.
The police also carried out another operation in Floridablanca, where more than 50 kilos of marijuana were seized and transported in two suitcases in a taxi.
“This shipment was from the band 'Los del sur'. That is why we are going to intensify operations against this criminal group in Santander,” said General Samuel Bernal, commander of the Bucaramanga Police.
The controversy began when Carlos Niebles proposed, in the middle of a debate on safety issues in the city of Barrancabermeja, Santander, he proposed to develop a project where a “zone of tolerance” will be created, in which marijuana can be safely consumed.
According to Niebles, marijuana use is a “scourge” that will not be able to end it, besides that this “problem” continues to grow in a skyrocketing way in the city. In addition, he points out that he knows the issue firsthand, since it is one of the causes of insecurity in the city.
Faced with the proposal, the councilor for the Radical Change party, Darinel Villamizar supported the notion by stating: “I don't think the proposal of the 'marihuanodrome' is far-fetched. Let us make the proposal complete and aimed not only at favoring those who wish to go and get a joint, but also to ensure that that youth will not end up in that; that the remedy does not come out worse than the disease”.
The one that the mayor of Barrancabermjea Alfonso Eljach assured that this project will have no place in his government: “Any motivation for microtrafficking and drug use affects health, family and people. Today the one who fuels all this vandalism, theft and violence, is the money of drugs. We have to get microtrafficking out of the neighborhoods.”
The theme was not only there, Niebles showed a video through social networks where he points out that one of the points where “the scourge” is most seen is in the Paseo de la Cultura, a tourist square in the city. That is why the “marihuanodrome” would be an ideal project to contribute a grain of sand to society.
The leader also assures that the proposal is not to encourage drug use or trafficking. The idea of the place is that consumers specifically of marijuana, says Niebles: “have their place, as is the sale of beer, as is the one who goes to a nightclub, the one who goes to a specific place to consume something”, also proposes that it be a nationwide project, so that “you smoke quietly and without going to bother others ”.
