Almost 70 years after the death of Jorge Negrete, the rumor that he had had a son with Fanny Kaufman, better known in the film industry as Vitola, was revived. It was Humberto Elizondo himself who spoke about the alleged unrecognized paternity of Charro Cantor, shared the meaning it has in his life and told the answer his mother gave him.
The famous Mexican interpreter who throughout his career in the medium participated in different audiovisual projects such as Malverde: the patron saint, I will never forget you, A refuge for love, Cuna de lobos, Simplemente María, among many others, gave an interview to Gustavo Adolfo Infante as part of the program El minuto that changed my destiny.
During the talk, the entertainment journalist questioned his guest about the rumor that spread among the public during the last century and remains valid as part of a legend involving two stars from the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema. According to rumors, Humberto Elizondo would be the unrecognized son of Jorge Negrete and Vitola due to his resemblance to the late actor and singer.
In this regard, the native of Saltillo said that when he was 42 years old, the same age as the protagonist of Two Types of Care when he died after spending several days in a coma from complications in his health resulting from liver cirrhosis caused by hepatitis C that he suffered in his youth, they had a great physical resemblance to the degree of be recognized as an adopted child by his relatives.
“When I was 42 I was quite similar physically to him, even his sisters adopted me as a putative son. The rest my mom says no. Now, if my mom had the good taste of doing it, who am I to criticize her [...] is an urban legend,” he said.
In this way, the actor made it clear that everything is a rumor, because he had the opportunity to talk about it with his famous mother and always denied it. But not only that, the 74-year-old actor confessed that Jorge Negrete has a very important meaning, far from the legend that links them, as he considers him one of the characters who left their mark on his life with El Quixote de la Mancha, a classic of literature written by Miguel de Cervantes, and the revolutionary Emiliano Zapata .
“Jorge Negrete for me is an icon, for me he is an example, a man who at the most important moment of his career left everything for his colleagues and dedicated himself only to ANDA, he didn't do it, it was done. He was in Spain, he had already done it and suddenly ANDA started to be bad, he left everything in Spain and returned, that was Jorge Negrete,” he added.
In this way, Humberto praised the work that Jorge Negrete did outside the stage and recording sets by building The National Actors Association and temporarily putting aside his career.
