Iranian Supreme Guide expects improvement in its country's economy

The Iranian supreme guide, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, expressed the hope on Sunday that his country will succeed in improving its economy, overcoming some of its problems, in a speech on the occasion of the Persian New Year.

“We hope to resolve economic problems progressively this new year because they will not suddenly disappear,” said Ayatollah Khamenei in his traditional televised message on the occasion of the Persian New Year or Noruz, which begins on Monday.

The country is affected by harsh economic sanctions imposed since 2018 by the United States after its unilateral withdrawal from the international agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue and by heavy inflation.

This agreement reached in 2015 facilitated the lifting of international economic sanctions imposed on Iran, in exchange for strict limits set on its nuclear program.

Great efforts have been made for almost a year in Vienna to save Iran's 2015 agreement with the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom, Russia and Germany.

The Iranian calendar runs from March to March, and the new year marks the passage from winter to spring.
