The economic situation of the Club Atlético Independiente continues to be delicate and to the problem is now compounded by the poor sporting performance demonstrated by the team led by Eduardo Domínguez and which was reflected in the home defeat he suffered this Saturday to Racing.

After the team lost 2-1 to its classic rival, Ricardo Enrique Bochini in the stands of the Libertadores de América stadium, a large part of the fans began singing against the Red Board of Directors, which since 2013 has been led by trade unionist Hugo Moyano.

With the elections suspended since December last year, due to alleged legal irregularities in the opposition's candidacies, for several months now fans have been demanding that a new date be confirmed to elect the future president of the Avellaneda institution.

In this context, after the match against Racing, a series of videos circulated on social networks in which one of Moyano's sons, Jerónimo Antonio Meriles, can be seen, being physically and verbally discerned by some fans of the club in the stadium's box sector.

Observing this situation, a group of club security employees protected the young man and accompanied him for several minutes, while in the corridors people continued to protest.

According to what transpired, even Hugo Moyano himself would have been confronted by fans when he was retiring from the court, from which he left without giving statements to the press, amid a climate of general unrest. Next to him was Hector “Yoyo” Maldonado, general secretary of Rojo, who was also booed by the crowd.

According to the latest balance sheet approved by the club, Independiente had a liability that reached 2,807,225,579 pesos, indicating that debt grew by 70 percent compared to the 2019/20 period.

At the last Extraordinary, Special and Ordinary Meeting, held last December, the Board of Directors obtained the “express authorization of financial instruments such as trusts, common investment funds, among others, as a tool for obtaining resources in order to meet capital investments and operating expenses of the institution”.

Hugo Moyano became president of the Avellaneda team in 2013, when the team had returned from a season at Nacional B, in what was the worst crisis in its history, which combined big debts, trials with former players and poor sports results.

From that moment on, the institution showed a slight improvement that led to the fact that on December 17, 2017, the leader of the Truckers Union was re-elected with 89 percent of the vote. All in a framework of enthusiasm after winning the Copa Sudamericana that same year.

However, a few months later the departure of coach Ariel Holan, which was succeeded by several colleagues who did not finish taking hold, the sale abroad of several players who were figures in the team and a series of bad decisions led to Independiente being again in a complicated situation.

This Saturday, for the 7th round of the League Cup, Rojo lost the classic in their own stadium by 2 to 1, thanks to the goals scored by Gabriel Hauche and Enzo Copetti for those led by Fernando Gago, and a single goal for the home scored by Lucas Saltita González at the start of the second half.
