“Ice Road”: the film starring Liam Neeson that is among the most watched fictions on Netflix

Subzero Risk (Ice Road) had a visit to movie theaters but it was only when it arrived on Netflix that this film reached popularity. Starring Liam Neeson (Really Love, Schindler's List), Ice Road is an action film shot entirely in natural settings in the cold town of Manitoba in Canada.

Neeson plays Mike, a truck driver who specializes in driving icy roads that can be extremely dangerous. He is in charge of his brother Gurty, who has a disability but helps him in his work. Mike is assigned the task of rescuing a group of workers who were trapped in a diamond mine in northern Canada.

Getting there is no easy task as he will have to face an ocean covered with ice, and with this, the danger of melting can cause him and his team to die. In this group there is a young native (Amber Midthunder) and another rather suspicious companion. The action and adrenaline scenes soon appear and Liam shows us his ability to move like a fish in the water in this genre.

In communication with Infobae during 2021 (the year the film was released on film), the actor talked about what it was like to shoot at such low temperatures in the middle of winter and stressed that it was not made with a “green screen” as films with special effects are usually filmed.

Subzero risk was filmed in extreme cold, how was the experience of working in such low temperatures?

It was very cold, very cold, but I like the cold weather. I made several films in the cold and I don't know, change your brain and collect thoughts in a different way, which in the heat it does not. I personally like it, I like to get comfortable in all those layers of clothing.

Was it your first time driving those trucks?

-Yeah, inside them they're like little New York apartments. Ha! It was exciting to handle them, I didn't drive them all the time but I did sometimes. And the ice, it was thick ice, but it was real, you could see the water below. You could never take it for granted that I was going to hold you because it was gradually melting. We had ice wranglers all the time just in case something happened. We received safety instructions every morning, and in case you fell on the ice, you would have 60 seconds to control your breathing, but after 60 seconds...

If you could tell us in a few words why we should watch Subzero Risk, what would you say to us?

I think you should see it because it's exciting, there's action, there's a lot of emotion, and there's action that I think the audience never saw before in the cinema, because it's not blue screen, it's not green screen, it's real, it was recorded way up in northern Canada, in extremely cold conditions, it wasn't done in a studio. So nothing is artificial, everything is real, and one of the stars of this film are those giant trucks.
