Crime in Peru: 11 crimes are recorded every hour in the country, including robberies and aggravated assaults

In 2021, reported crimes increased by 18% compared to the previous year where 79,920 criminal acts were recorded.

The citizen insecurity that exists in Peru is an issue that cannot be ignored. Crime rates continue to rise and despite the fact that several political figures have promised to end it, it continues to threaten thousands of people who are assaulted at any time of day even if there is a police presence or security cameras.

After a year since quarantine, last year, 11 crimes have been reported per hour, on average throughout Peru. During 2021, there were 94,789 criminal acts, according to the annual report of the Police Complaints System (Sidpol). In addition, the data indicate that reported crimes increased by 18 per cent (14,869) compared to the previous year where 79,920 criminal acts were recorded.

According to statistics, thefts and aggravated robberies grew the most, with both crimes accounting for 83% (78,482) of the crime incidence. In 2020, there were 67,431 incidents of insecurity. Likewise, in 2021, the national rate of relevant crimes (theft and aggravated robbery, extortion, homicide, murder, femicide, bullet injuries, kidnapping and rape) was 287 per 100,000 inhabitants. In the case of homicides, there were 2,166 homicides nationwide, 376 cases more than in 2020. Lima, La Libertad, Callao, Piura, Puno, Ica, Arequipa and Junín accounted for 85% (1,585 cases).

Similarly, in this same period there were 687 homicides for murder, 329 more than in 2020. Lima, Callao, La Libertad, Piura, Ica, Ancash, Lambayeque and Tumbes accounted for 92% (641) of the total. There were also 3,894 extortions, 2,000 cases more than in the previous year.

For its part, the Peruvian National Police (PNP) comments that in 2020 there were 37,058 arrested for various crimes. Last year, 2,851 criminal gangs were also dismantled in the country.

A WEEK FULL OF CRIME

SUBJECT PRETENDED TO BE A PASSENGER TO STEAL

On March 14, agents of the Terna Group captured a subject who, confused among passengers, stole belongings on urban service buses. This arrest took place in the Cusco region, the criminal was 42 years old and was constantly getting on and off public transport buses, without imagining that his steps were watched by undercover police officers.

When he was checked, he had a Redmi cell phone, of dubious origin, so he was taken to the police station in San Jerónimo. A citizen was present at the police station, who reported having been the victim of theft of her cellular equipment. He recognized the above device as his property.

TWO KILLED AFTER ATTEMPTED ROBBERY OF 10,000 SOLES

On March 15, an assault was carried out inside a transport carrying 10,000 soles, but two men died on the spot. The incident took place in La Victoria. The National Police indicated that the thugs, on board two vehicles, closed the way to the unit and tried to rob its occupants, however, the person who was in the the co-pilot's seat responded to the attack and a shooting broke out.

In addition, it was reported that one of the assailants was injured and was arrested by agents of the Apolo police station in the vicinity of the area and was taken to the Dos de Mayo hospital. He was identified as Angel Vladimir Barreto Meses, who records records aggravated robbery. Likewise, the bullet casings in the subject's body and the weapon found at the scene of the shooting shall be approved to determine the degree of participation.

OFFENDER ROBS POLICE AND ENDS UP CRYING

On March 16, a criminal did everything to avoid being transferred to the police station. This Wednesday, in the morning hours, they captured a thug who took the wallet of a policeman in Los Olivos. The subject intercepted his victim and snatched his belongings when he was waiting for a bus in the Santa Elvira area.

According to the injured person, the residents of the place helped him intervene with the evildoer, who responds to the name of César Meléndez. After this, the uniformed men arrived and framed him to take him to the police command. Faced with this, the criminal began to apologize and even excused himself by saying that he does so because he does not have “to eat and that it is the first time”. The victim of the robbery heard the laments; however, he ignored and asked for the greatest sanction for the thug, who was captured after running for several blocks.

HE DOPED A YOUNG MAN WITH A WAFER TO ROB HIM

Police officers captured a 56-year-old man who doped his seatmate with a wafer cookie. Both were traveling from Lima to Cusco on a Transvisa bus when everything happened. Everything was going normally until the subject, identified as Alberto Infanzón Ascarza, invited the sweet to the young woman. Within minutes, the woman already had symptoms such as headache, sleep, among others. Given this, the driver called on the highway uniformed, who immediately intervened the bus and the individual, who had more adulterated wafers in his trunk.

According to the authorities, the man added somniferous substances to the candy and gained the confidence of passengers to be able to snatch their belongings from them. “These products are going to pass through our studies,” Colonel Ghino Malaspina, chief of the Highway Police, warned Latina Noticias. It was also known that the 56-year-old has complaints of physical violence filed by his two ex-partners.

19 THOUSAND SOLES STOLEN IN JULIACA'S HOUSE

In the early hours of Thursday, March 17, three armed criminals entered a house located in the Tupac Amaru shred of the Cercado in the city of Juliaca, province of San Román, Puno region . 13 SUBJECTS ARE CAPTURED STEALING GOLD ORE

Thirteen individuals were arrested by police officers, after they were found stealing gold ore from a mine operating in the province of Pataz, Freedom. Police sources revealed that the representative of a mining company came to the police delegation to report that several individuals were stealing gold ore in the premises of his company, under the modality of parkers.

After pursuing them, they were caught and identified as Fausto Gregorio Ávila Ruiz (32), Abel Cain Rojas Contreras (19), Segundo Desiderio Marreros Argomedo (39), Alex Noel Rojas Contreras (20), Rene Avila Ruiz (24), Benilson Johan Contreras Polo (19). In addition, Juan Carlos Mariños Vega (21), Luis Rubén Castillo Vera (21), Victor Confessor Avila Ruiz (26), Celso Asarias Vargas Polo (26), Jorge Luis Mariños Vega (21), River Rolly Vasquez Vásquez (27) and O.R.R.C. (16) were also intervened.

The detainees were seized mining lamps and tools used for ore removal.
