“Batman” continued this weekend at the top of the US box office, while he began to gain strength abroad, as industry observer Exhibitor Relations reported on Sunday.
According to provisional data from the specialized firm, the new version of the 'batman' raised some $36.8 million between Friday and Sunday in cinemas in the United States and Canada.
The dark and harsh Warner Bros. superhero film, starring Robert Pattinson, surpassed the $300 million mark in North America in just three weeks of theatrical display and nearly doubled that figure abroad, with $598 million.
In second place in the ranking was another dark film, the fantasy animation “Jujutsu Kaisen 0", by Crunchyroll/Funimation (95% owned by Sony Pictures), which tells the story of a young student who becomes a sorcerer and fights a cursed spirit.
This feature film grossed $17.7 million in cinemas in North America, which David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research called “an excellent release” for an anime.
The third place went to “Uncharted: Off the Map”, also from Sony, with $8 million raised. In this film Tom Holland plays a treasure hunter in the style of Indiana Jones.
In fourth place was another premiere, by the independent studio A24, simply titled “X”, with $4.4 million.
According to Gross, this horror production, which has received good reviews, should “quickly recover its costs and earn a few million dollars”.
It was followed, in fifth place, by Metro Goldwyn's comedy “Dog”, with Channing Tatum in the starring role, which grossed $4.1 million over the weekend.
The remaining five on the list of 10 highest-grossing films were:
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($3.2 million)
“Death on the Nile” (USD 1.7 million)
"The Outfit" (USD 1,5 millones)
"The Kashmir Files" (USD 1,5 millones)
"Sing 2" (USD 1,5 millones)
