DUMAS, Arkansas, USA (AP) At least one person was killed and 20 injured, including children, in a shooting Saturday night before a car show in southeastern Arkansas, according to local police.
Keith Finch, chief of police in the town of Dumas, gave the rising toll of victims but said it was not clear at first how many minors had been injured.
One person was in custody, although there had been several shooters, Finch told the press.
State patrolmen left at around 19:25 for Dumas, located about 144 kilometers (90 miles) south of Little Rock, after receiving a warning of gunfire at a local store where a car show was being held, according to Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler.
The car show is an annual community event held each spring to raise funds for scholarships and school supplies, according to the Delta Neighborhood Empowerment Youth Organization, which convened the event.
Wallace McGehee, the main organizer of the event, expressed his condolences to the victims' families and the community.
“For something like this to happen is a tragedy,” McGehee told KATV at the scene. “We've been doing this for 16 years without a problem.”
At first there was no further information, including the condition of the injured.
